Quad City Pickleball facts, multiplied

I gave an underestimation of the population involved in the Quad Cities.  In truth, “Quad” has always been an incorrect term, having originally left out us Bettendorfers, but that is another story.

Dean Easterlund wrote me to point out that a better term these days is the “QC Metro” area, the population of which is around 350,000.

And, on the pickleball front he wrote:   As a club, we are working with whole area. Davenport city council just approved monies for converting three of the six tennis courts at Northwest Park into eight dedicated pIckleball courts. Eldridge approved monies to build a 6-plex complex patterned on the Bettendorf courts. Moline has a blue print to expand its tennis complex at Riverside park and include pIckleball courts. The enthusiasm for more courts in the metro area is a direct result of the heavy use at the new Bettendorf courts. Our club membership is presently at 261 and continuing to rapidly expand. The club provides a good barometer for the park districts to see the growth and use of facilities. It’s a fun game made better by good courts.

Wow !    If  Seattle alone were to match this on a population basis, we’d have:

•   An organized group of 500-600 players to lobby for facilities.

•   More than 40 dedicated outdoor pickleball courts.

•   Many tennis courts also lined for pickle ball.

Multiply that by 2 or more if you took in the whole Seattle metro area.
